A NATIONAL MISSION IS OPENING A NEW INFRASTRUCTURE MARKET

Under the Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat, India has outlined an ambition to reach 100GW of nuclear capacity by 2047, a scale-up that will require sustained investment across engineering, technology, manufacturing, construction and supporting infrastructure for decades to come.

A central pillar of that ambition is the commitment of approximately US$2.3 billion (₹20,000 crore) to support Small Modular Reactor (SMR) development, a technology expected to accelerate deployment timelines and open the sector to a wider base of manufacturers, engineering firms and technology providers than large-scale conventional plants alone.

Taken together, these initiatives are creating new opportunities across the full nuclear value chain, from reactor components and plant digitalisation to EPC delivery and long-term operations and maintenance, as India works to secure reliable, low-carbon baseload power alongside its renewable energy build-out.

THE OPPORTUNITY

A multi-decade infrastructure programme

A funded starting point

Union Budget 2025–26 commits approximately US$2.3 billion (₹20,000 crore) to Small Modular Reactor development, opening the market to a broader supplier base.

A long-term national target

The Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat sets a target of 100 GW of nuclear capacity by 2047, sustaining demand for engineering, construction and technology through mid-century.

A widening supply chain

Localisation and capacity expansion are creating room for manufacturers, EPC contractors and research institutions to enter or scale their role in the sector.

Baseload alongside renewables

Nuclear energy is positioned to complement India's renewable energy growth, providing reliable, low-carbon baseload power as electricity demand rises.
